King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has established a nuclear
engineering academic program to produce nuclear engineers in
support of the Kingdom's plans to build up to sixteen nuclear power
reactors over the next several years. Currently two classes have
been enrolled and are making their way through the program.
KAU will send a 13 freshmen students and 10 sophomore students
from its nuclear engineering program for training and professional
development activities in the A&M Department of Nuclear
Engineering, the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI) and the Nuclear
Security Science and Policy Institute (NSSPI).
To maximize the value of the experience for both groups of
students, several unique components will be incorporated into the
program that draw on the strengths of the Department of Nuclear
Engineering, NPI and NSSPI. These include:
- High Quality Instruction and Course Content Designed to Meet
the Needs of the Participants
- Experiences with the A&M Reactors
- Visit to an Operating Power Reactor
- Interaction with the Nuclear Power Plant Technician Education
Program
- Engagement with Outreach Activities to Communities, Leaders,
Schools, Students, Teachers and the Public
- One-on-One Personalized Interaction in the English Language
