Nuclear Power Development Training

Date: Monday, June 03, 2013 - Tuesday, July 02, 2013

The Nuclear Power Institute at Texas A&M University will host a 30-day nuclear power training for 30 participants from Kenya. Key stakeholders within a multiple Kenyan organizations will attend the intensive course covering a broad range of topics dealing with the implementation of nuclear technologies.

The course will include traditional lectures by NPI and Texas A&M faculty as well as experts from industry and government agencies. Exercises at various TAMU laboratories will provide practical experiences and site visits to training and power facilities within Texas will provide insight into the challenges of the developing a nuclear power program

 

The King Abdulaziz University/Texas A&M University Nuclear Engineering Training Course

Date: Monday, June 10, 2013 - Friday, August 02, 2013

King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has established a nuclear engineering academic program to produce nuclear engineers in support of the Kingdom's plans to build up to sixteen nuclear power reactors over the next several years. Currently two classes have been enrolled and are making their way through the program.

KAU will send a 13 freshmen students and 10 sophomore students from its nuclear engineering program for training and professional development activities in the A&M Department of Nuclear Engineering, the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI) and the Nuclear Security Science and Policy Institute (NSSPI).

To maximize the value of the experience for both groups of students, several unique components will be incorporated into the program that draw on the strengths of the Department of Nuclear Engineering, NPI and NSSPI. These include:

  • High Quality Instruction and Course Content Designed to Meet the Needs of the Participants
  • Experiences with the A&M Reactors
  • Visit to an Operating Power Reactor
  • Interaction with the Nuclear Power Plant Technician Education Program
  • Engagement with Outreach Activities to Communities, Leaders, Schools, Students, Teachers and the Public
  • One-on-One Personalized Interaction in the English Language through the Coach/Mentor Program
  • Disaster City® Exercise
  • A&M Power Plant Tour
  • Participation in Saudi Arabian Student Association Activities
  • Access to University Facilities
