Sweeny High School POWER SET “Dress for Success” Program

On Monday, January 25, 2016, Page Parkes Vice President and SHS Alumni, Tabitha Pagel Garcia, presented a "Dress for Success" program to Sweeny High School POWER SET. Tabitha discussed proper dress for interviews as well as how to prepare for unexpected interview questions including taking a speech class, studying improv, or just practice role playing. She also discussed the importance of proper jewelry and makeup for interviews. Palacios High School POWER SET Members Visit UTMB and Texas A&M in Galveston

On January 22nd and 23rd, Palacios High School POWER SET members traveled to UTMB and Texas A&M in Galveston. On Friday, members were greeted by our guide, Alicia Simmons, and then toured the School of Nursing Simulation lab, run by Dr. Rachel Kilgore, and were even allowed to participate in simulations with their robotic patients. Their patients were talking to them via a microphone and nursing students in a control room and were able to do such things as listen their heartbeat and care for their basic needs. Sweeny POWER SET Visits STP Nuclear Plant

On Thursday, January 7, 2016, POWER SET members from Sweeny High School visited the South Texas Project Nuclear Plant in Wadsworth, Texas. Shelia Davis, STP Public Relations Manager, met with members upon arrival, and they viewed a short video which described the basics of nuclear energy and also the background of the STP facility at Wadsworth. Afterwards, members asked questions about the facility, internships, and available scholarships. Nuclear Power Institute Hosting 5th Annual Science on Saturday at Palacios High School

SOS is an exciting science program for the young (K-6) and young at heart.  The event will highlight fun and educational science experiments and demonstrations. Students will learn through interactive, hands-on activities that include fun with polymers, magnets, and neurons, as well as everyday products and household materials. Annual Breakfast with POWER SET Mentors from STP

Every year, the STP mentors for POWER SET arrived bright and early to a potluck style breakfast cooked by members. December 3rd at this year's breakfast, mentors got to meet their individual mentees, as well as the groups that they will mentor.
